So I am having a couple weird issues. This started happening this last week. After Windows Update did its thing.
So here are my new issues, has anyone else seen this?
1. When a show is done, I click done and go back to mytv. After about 5-10 minutes the show will start playing again in the background.
2. If I pause a show, when I unpause it will sometimes go back to the begining of the show, or start up where it would be as if I hadn't paused it.
These 2 issues are really killing me. Nothing on the system has changed, except the last batch of windows updates. I have not seen this experience on my other machine...

Haven't come across this myself yet - although my MCE box just updated itself half an hour ago, so there's still time.
I have seen similar things previously, but that was down to my power- / screensaver- settings. If I turned these off it would behave normally, with them on, it would automatically re-start files if they were paused for a few minutes, as well as completely switch of the display and stop the file etc. Think this was a caused by a previous update.
It's like communicating with god. You pray and pray and pray for that bike, but you never get a response or the bike. Then you figure out how it works; you steal a bike and pray for forgiveness.

Hmm ya it might happen after the picture slideshow kicks in.. will turn that off and see if it goes away. So maybe the broke something with the latest updates.

I've noticed something similar to #1. Last night when watching Dr. Who, the show restarted immediately after it finished. I didn't really think anything of it other than it was just odd. This was after I installed the newest batch of updates though (included was the cummulative MC update). I haven't checked if this is isolated to myTV, and it didn't happen to the episode of Macgyver that I watched afterwards (though I fell asleep during it, so it may have played 10 times, but this morning I had the blue done screen up).
edit: note, during dr. who, I didn't even get the blue screen, it just restarted (I watched a bit thinking maybe it was bloopers..LOL)

This just happened to me on Everybody Loves raymond. It is very irritating. It seems this new update has a bunch of playback issues.
So to clarify - this obviously happens outside of myTV also?
I"m hesitant to ask, but why do you all install the windows updates? The first thing I do after an OS install is disable automatic updates and only install the specific ones I've read about that will fix an issue I'm having. I read to many stories like this where a recent update is breaking something that was working correctly beforehand. I hope no offense is taken.

Firstly, no offense taken (at least by me). Secondly, I install them cause generally I am a very trusting person when it comes to updates. I have never had a fix make my computer worse off (till this popped up and this is really minor) and I never install "recommended" updates unless I read what they fix first. However I do install "critical" updates without question, though I try and see what they are. That said, I only have windows download the updates and never have it set to automatically install since that forces a restart of my machines which I don't like one bit (i prefer more control over that).

Good question. I believe it happened while I was watching "The Hammer" in My Movies the other day, but can't remember for sure.
I get this (mis) behaviour too, exactly as described by crzykidd.
I also have an additional issue; sometimes 'stop' doesn't work. I can pause a video, then unpause it, but not stop it. If the video plays to completion I don't then get the 'Done / Delete' blue screen at the end, just the final frame of the Video.
I've experienced all three issues outside MyTV (Using the standard VMC Video Library) and none of the problems are consistent. So far they just seem to happen at whim.
Thanx M$, S'driving me nuts.
Hmm, mine updated itself last night (or was it the night before) and I haven't seen this behavior yet. Haven't watched a lot of TV since then, but if it happens I guess it's high time to roll out Fiji on the main HTPC also :)
As for automatic windows updates - on the HTPC I have them automatically downloaded and installed just to simplify life. It doesn't have a mouse/keyboard attached, and using RDP to administrate it just isn't working the way I'd like (ie. you're logged out from the console while RDPing - sure there's a hack to get around it but what the heck). I've done this since the release of Vista and so far (knock on wood) it hasn't broken anything in a major way (or minor even that I can recall). The thing I don't like however is that it'll pop up a dialog asking you if you'd like to reboot now or later (after certain updates) - however, even chosing Later will reboot the box pretty much straight away.
On other computers they are downloaded automatically, but installed manually - but again, I generally install everything that comes my way. I just like the control of it not rebooting when _it_ feels like it.
