I have just reinstalled Vista Home Premium and updated to Service Pack 1 but when I try to install myTV I get the following message: "myTV can only be installed on Vista Home Premium or Ultimate". Could this be to do with service pack 1 changing the version number?

I have tried running through cmd with admin elevation but I get the same message. Can anyone think what is happening?

Well, since you're not running the beta, I guess that could possibly be the case, that it doesn't recognize SP1, but don't quote me on that.

Let me guess - you installed the leaked Fiji release also? Completely unsupported and I'm sure you'll find a lot more VMC addins do not install.

This is still not fixed actually as I have been unable to find information on what has actually changed, but it's at the top of my list.

Well I installed it [fiji] as a test and will probably go back to before fiji after I play some. I just wanted to see what it was about. Since i had it running I ran some tests of my favorite plugins for hell of it. :) My thing is that I just ran the update, I didn't do the reinstall, so myTV still works (sort of). Whether or not myTV would have installed is something I don't know about.

Yeah, to be honest I don't know for sure either - but I haven't been able to install a single AddIn since I installed Fiji. Because it's my dev machine it's not a problem as the dlls and resources are registered directly, but the installer does not work.

I would have thought there would be information available to us (as beta testers) as to what needs changing in the install packages to allow for this, but so far I've found nothing.

Haha, if developers haven't even got the RTM version, as if they'd tell you how to build an installer LOL

FFS, this has been the worlds most botched update I've had experience with.

Now they're making sly references to screwing with your system if you don't do a fresh install. As I said, I won't be installing it.

The really bad part is I believe S1 is already started taking orders and shipping VMC machines with the TV Pack already installed. So if plugins really won't install because of how it returns teh version, then there is going to be a big problem. I don't try to back MSFT too much, but when it comes to MC, it seems they make some pretty dumb decisions.

Don't make me choose between ClearQAM or MyTV. It's like choosing between Pizza or beer! Thankfully no one is forcing us to make that choice :D

I have, just like everyone here, an early OEM box with 'Fiji' preinstalled on it. I've successfully installed MyTV on a fresh install.

To install MyTV after Fiji:

1. Follow the Fiji install instructions.
2. Regedit, HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center
3. Find Ident, change from 5.1 to 5.0
4. Install MyTV
5. Change back to 5.1

Hope this works for others. Works for me on Ultimate!

Edit: I should clarify. The latest beta (8116?) didn't work. It installed, I could hit settings, but could not launch the program. No event log goodness. The commercial build (8040?) works fine though. It (mytvservice) maxed out my CPU, regardless of whether it (mytv app) was running or not. Could have been because of fresh install or any other of a million reasons. Too tired to hunt it down right now.

Ahh, I figured there would be a versionchange somewhere that was screwing us over, but managed to completely miss this one.

I'll update the installer to allow for 5.0 and 5.1 and hopefully that'll be it.

As for 08116 - I would guess you entered the username or password wrong during installation? The fact there is no eventlog available (which is created during service install) seems to point to this, or something similar. The reason the myTV application won't start is because the service is unable to start (the UI sits there for a while waiting to connect in later versions). Although, if the service is maxing out your CPU ... I don't know - it does have a lot of things to do during the first startup after upgrade, but it shouldn't max it out - that should be done by sqlsrver.exe and a few other processes.

Thanks iRobie! That really helped - us "early OEM box with 'Fiji' preinstalled" owners should stick together (perhaps the abbreviation EOBWFP should be used from now on!). Good to see that you updated Admin before the new release!

I worded it incorrectly. Event Log was showing "No new episodes...sleeping for 120 minutes," but it wasn't showing anything useful in regards to not launching. I believe the problem was I was restoring an 0804 database to 8116. Not sure if this would cause problems elsewhere, but I reinstalled Vista (w/o Fiji) and had the same problem. Installing 8040, restoring database, then installing 8116 fixed the issue. I've now created a backup of 8116 db and will try restoring that directly next time.

For those keeping count, I removed Fiji because it issued a new screen when pressing 'Stop' on the video. I saw another complaint about this. I couldn't get this screen to work on AVIs - perhaps it was videos playing through MyTV/My Movies. Not sure, but if affected both addons. Then I spent time getting ClearQAM (via Aver) working on my box for the 5 channels I get in my house. Done. I have ClearQAM and MyTV again and literally no need for Fiji :)

Yep, the DB scheme was updated [again] for 08116. If this turns out to be a general problem I'll include a DB-upgrade button in Settings/Database, but you should have been able to get going again simply by reinstalling 08116 with the old database inplace.

I didn't want to start a new topic for this because I know Fiji is entirely unsupported, and I couldn't find the old one where it was discussed, but what was that issue you were having with Fiji that was causing issues with the resume function you'd added?

I decided to give it a try, and have been having myTV crashing even with the current beta version when I play a second episode, even if its only five seconds before stopping one episode and choosing the next.  It crashes, and then starts to play the second episode I've picked after I hit okay.

Yeah, we discussed this in another thread, but the bug is slightly different. The one I removed was that it would crash after being left idle for a minute, playing back to back episodes would work fine as long as it happened inside the 60s window.

After I removed the code causing it it's been running fine here.
