I think it was in here.
I did a completely clean install with the latest version with included service. Adding shows worked fine through both the interface and the series.id files.
Good.
I've even had a reply from Sam saying it works wonders for him with 08238. Now, he swears up and down on his wife's life that he had nothing listening on port 80 - but all I changed in that respect between builds was to "unmap" the default clientbase port of 80 from the UI.
I dunno, but in any case - it seems to be working for everyone now.
In terms of service stability - 08238 hasnt even flinched with everything ive thrown at it....i hate to use the word flawless but....

Ya I second that. It rebuilt my db on my test machine... Adding every EP all 3200+ of them without a hickup. No crashes or anything. I think you have a solid service there :)

My reinstall is on the way. As soon as Windows is done i will install sqlserver and then myTV before anything else.
If you get the chance, feel free to install SQL Server Express 2008 and take some screenshots/write some notes for the wiki :)
I'll see what i can do. Hopefully the reinstall works and I can use myTV with my server apps. if not, i don't know what i'll do. I HAVE to have the server apps running. it may be time to try and build my atom based server though
I have similar issues, the beta is unable to add shows on my machine (Vista x64), a clean install (clean sql, clean mytv) did not help whatsoever.
It doesn't add shows and also doesn't create series.id files within the network share on which I have all my media files. I hope there'll be a new beta *soon* as the program is totally unusable to me now...

If you read the posts above you'll find that it works fine for everyone.
Did you run the netsh commands and make sure the ports are allowed thru the firewall? Also, does the service have access to your filesystem? and is it running?
Turns out I missed the netsh commands ... I thought I'd used those but that was on a different machine. Doh!
Thanks anyways, seems to work now.
I've come across a situation where I'm trying to add more shows to my database and the shows don't get added. I click yes on the "New Show" prompt, click on a show and it is found, try to add it to the database and it says "Attempting to add..." and that's it. Before it would show each episode being added and now nothing. Then I go to the Main Menu where there is a banner for that show and when I click on the banner I get "Error. No episodes found for XXXXX. They may be in the process of being downloaded. Please retry later." I try back much later and I still get the same message.
I've tried deleting and adding it again with no success.
Any help?
Edit: Found an answer in another post. Apparently stopping then restarting the myTV service did the trick.
