I've just tried to install the BETA after several attempts at installing the previous stable version with no success. During installation at the stage of creating databases the installer stops and give me: "Error -2147467259: failed to create SQL database: myTV, error details: unknown error."

I've search the forums and there were a couple of other users with the same problem. I tried to follow some of the suggestions but nothing has worked for me. I got this error also with the previous version of myTV.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, also with myMovies extension.

Please help... I'm lost on how to get things back up and running :(

That indicates one of two things. Either you have not entered the SQL Server\Instance correctly, or, the current user does not have create permissions on the SQL Server.

A few things to try;

I was getting this error, but it seemed to work after I stopped putting a .\ in front of my username like I used to do.  Don't know if that was supposed to fix it, but it seemed to.

On a side note, the service doesn't seem to have the right privledges and won't run.  I ended up changed the login information in the actual service editor to another use and it seemed to work.  The only difference between my username and the other is that a password is required for the other (both admins).  Any clue what's up?

.\username should no longer be required - in fact that should stop the installation from proceeding.

The useraccount running the service needs a password set - Windows won't let a service run without one (unless you're using the built in service accounts - which will not work very well with network shares).

Thanks it worked like a charm. I don't know if the SQL server instance is case sensitive or not... I tried combinations like myMovies, Mymovies, MYMovies and they never worked. All caps seems to have done the trick.

I didn't find the "Run as Administrator" when I right clicked but instead advanced permission properties and I played around with them too, giving the file full control to everything (same thing I guess?).

Anyway... it's installed at last :)

Thanks!

You couldn't find run as administrator because by default there is no way to easily run .msi files as the admin in Vista.  There are some complicated ways around it, but by far the best thing I've found (and most useful) is at this link:

http://juice.altiris.com/download/1382/msi-run-as-administrator-context-menu-for-vista

It has a .reg file that can be added that adds the run as administrator button to you right click context menu.  Works great and highly recommended.

Im currently getting this error when installing the beta from a remote machine, though I know it used to work. I have some theories like in the main install I used a 'myTV' user instead of my nonrmal login (using either one fails with this same message). I'm going to run more tests, but as some of you know I'm having HTPC problems (mainly raid) and I want to work that out before I get too heavily into testing anymore. I should be back on the site more often though (YEAH!!!)
