Hi all,

I know this isn't related to myTV, but I need some desparate help. I was reinstalling my VMC machine today and upon reinstall I can no longer get my Raid 5 array to work. First, here is my setup

VMC box with highpoint Technologies RocketRaid 2314 eSATA raid card

AthenaPower storbox 5 drive enclosure.

When I don't have the storbox connected, the computer boots just fine. If I connect the storbox, it seems to be stalling on crcdisk.sys (at least in safe mode). I have 1.5tb of data on these drives and I can't seem to get it working. I could regain the shows (though it would take me forever and a great loss of ratio on my torrent sites), but the work data is what i really need.

Can anyone give me any ideas on how I could fix this? i'm already going to try installing Fedora (as Highpoint makes a driver for them) and see if I can at least get access to the data in order to slave it off to other drives.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Couple ideas (which I don't know if they'll help at all);

  • What happens if you boot it up with the storbox powered down and only power it up once the computer is running?
  • Pull the drives from the enclosure - does it boot now?
  • Install SP1 before the storbox.
  • Disable bios USB support.

Does it actually crash? or just stall? I've had a similar problem where it would sit idle for ages (several minutes) before actually starting up. Once booted it would work sorta fine - as in you could access the drive, but would give hickups every few minutes.

If you boot up and then turn on the box, the raid card doesn't recognize the HDs and the computer acts sluggish.

I pulled the hard drives and the computer started fine. i even tried pulling one at a time to see if it was one of the drives. The only one that wouldn't really stall it was the top one, but that wasa because it wouldn't let me past post with it out for some reaons. Must be with how the enclosure handes the order of drives.

I can try installing SP1, but its always worked before SP1.

I'll Disable Bios USB support as well and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions :) hopefully something works. I need to get to the data to at least slave it off to other drives. The odd thing is I can't even access the drives to recreate the raid.
