As some of you have already noticed, TheTVDB.com is currently [somewhat] unavailable. At this time I'm not entirely certain what the problem is, although I'm sure the right people are aware of it and will be doing their best to bring it back up and running as fast as humanly possible.

Whilst I spent a lot of time offline-proofing the v1.2 releases, I completely missed the Popup feature which needs a direct connection to TheTVDB. This has been fixed in code already, and will be included in the next release - as for now however, it means you may not be able to open the Show/Season popups in myTV.

If this turns into a long term technical problem (the site being down) I will post an update here.

If you're in a team, you'll be able to blame it on your team members, and that's one of the reasons for working in a team, but if you're working by yourself and your program has errors, all you can do is blame it on Microsoft.

Is that why last night/early this morning when I hit the info button, it would show the popup but the cursor didn't appear, and then gave the myTV is not responding message?  Sounds like it might be.

Yup, that's the reason.

I've just loaded myTV and am having trouble adding any shows. VMC just kinda locks up. Is this also related to TVDB being down?

BobL.

Afraid so.

We're working on it now, but the site is getting hammered at the moment.

Should be fixed.  When the old interfaces were turned off some not so friendly clients just kept requesting the page as fast as they could.  We are still implementing some fixes for this on the server, but everything is back up and running now.

Naughty naughty clients.... I thought it was me actually, I'd just uploaded a whole heap of new banners for shows/seasons and then it died Smile

Hehe

Yeah, it's all done now. I even re-enabled the old interfaces, but they are now serving up data telling you "This client is no longer supported by TheTVdB.com. Please update your client.".

There's already one confused user over at TheTVDB forums asking why this text came up.. So in a couple years the last few users should have got the message Smile

I'm getting this message now.  Are you doing something to fix?  Or are you saying this is an issue on thetvdb.com's side?

EDIT:

According to this post on their forums, you need to make changes to mytv to make it work again:

The old interfaces have finally been turned off. We were supposed to do it back in March, but now it has happened.

You will need to update your client to a client that supports the new interfaces. Programing information for the new API can be found at: http://www.thetvdb.com/wiki/index.php/Programmers_API

Scott can fill in more about the reasons behind disabling the old interfaces, but most of it deals with unoptimized code and server load.

Thanks,
CrzyKidd

You need to update your myTV version to the current beta release.

You need to update your myTV version to the current beta release.

Any chance you could release a small fix for 8040?  I really don't want to deal with the hassle of playing with beta software (especially after reading I'd have to back up my settings file, back up my database, run a bunch of command-line commands, and then, even if nothing goes wrong with installation, I'd still potentially have to deal with a pretty good sized list of bugs).

There is no small fix to be done I'm afraid as the entire TVDB code was rewritten between 08040 and later versions.

As for upgrading to the beta - most (well, a lot) users have performed this upgrade already without many problems and I would say that whilst there are still bugs to be sorted out, there are less "serious" issues with the 1.2 builds than the "stable" 08040 :) The mention of backing up the database is there as a standard disclaimer really - so far not a single DB has been lost during upgrade (and no-one has gone back down to 08040 either), so I would say go for it. Really, it's 5 command prompt commands, deletion of the settings file and you're done.

Or you can hold out for a few more days til the next build where there should be no commands or settings.xml issues.

If you're in a team, you'll be able to blame it on your team members, and that's one of the reasons for working in a team, but if you're working by yourself and your program has errors, all you can do is blame it on Microsoft.

It's not a small fix, it'd be a complete re-write of the back end... so the answer to that question would be no.

There is no fix that can be done to mytv to fix this.  With Arne loosing tons of equipment with the lightning strike it put the next release behind schedule.  Unfortunatly thetvdb.com has already extended the cut off date, and won't be doing again.

As for doing the upgrade.  Man the latest beta is way better and more stable than 08040 build.  As far as upgrading to it.  It is very straight forward.  The command prompt you have to run, will most likely be required in the release of 1.2 anyway.

We are happy to help you get this done, and answer any questions for you... Should take you more than 10 minutes :)

Or give us another week to get the release out.
