This fixes the issues some people had with 1.0.08038c released a few days ago. For detailed changes, please check the changelog.

Brand spanking new trial edition of myTV. Much improved on the previous 10/31 release. Whilst I'm working on the general documentation for this release, I'll post quick install instructions here.

First of all, you need a 'locally' installed Microsoft SQL Server [Express] 2005 SP2, locally means it needs to run either on your local Vista computer - or any other computer on your home network (if you have one). This file can be downloaded and installed from here.

Once MSSQL has been installed, download the myTV installer above and select 'run'. Once downloaded and started, you will be presented with a Welcome screen, where you click Next. This takes you to the License agreement, where you have to agree to the T&C's and again click Next.

This will bring you to the SQL Server Information screen, which looks like this,

here you should enter the name of the computer where you installed SQL Server Express, and also the SQL Instance name. If you performed a default SQL installation on your local machine, the default values should be fine.

update 1.0.08040 - You can now change the default database name (myTV) to any name you wish. If you already have My Movies installed, please enter Mymovies as the SQL Instance name and everything should work as expected.

Once this information has been entered (if applicable) click Next which will take you to the Service Useraccount screen, which looks like,

Here you should enter your username and password used to log onto your computer. If you are uncomfortable entering your personal account details here, you can create a specific myTV user and enter that instead. The only thing to keep in mind is that whatever account information you enter does need [at-least] read access to your media files.

update 1.0.08040 - Please enter your username in the format .\USERNAME.

Right, so it's time to click Next again, quickly followed by Install at which point Vista should elevate you to perform the actual installation.

That's pretty much it, once completely installed you can start Media Center and you will find a brand new myTV menustrip on the main Media Center menu. Selecting any of the buttons on this strip will start the application and help you [a little bit] with configuration.

Enjoy.

Right, so it's time to click Next again, quickly followed by Install at which point Vista should elevate you to perform the actual installation.

There are a few problems with the installers at the moment, so I'll take you through it. First, run setup as an elevated user (Administrator), do not change the default installation path (as I'm using resources in there from VMC).

About half-way through the installation it will start setting up the SQL database, if you experience any problems here (installer crashing or error messages about MSSQL) please check that your SQL installation is working 100%. You can do this by starting a Command Prompt, typing sqlcmd -S.\SQLExpress and hitting enter. It should give you either an error message (meaning there is something wrong with the installation - please check MS knowledgebase) or a 1> prompt (meaning all is good - check forums for a solution). If this is an upgrade from a previous version of myTV it'll tell you 'myTV database already exists - continue?', just select continue and you'll be fine.

Shortly after this it will install the service and try to start it. At this point the installer will seem dead, just leave it for a minute and select ignore on the dialogbox that eventually pops up.

Once the installation is complete, start VMC and select myTV settings from the main menu. Once there, go to Folders and chose the folders you store your TV series in - still working on this screen, but for the time being, clicking the names will open/close the folder structure. Clicking the checkbox will store the folder as watched in your settings. Once done, quit VMC.

Ok, almost there. Make sure the NT Authority\System user has read/browse access to the folders previously selected. If your folders are on the local computer this shouldn't be a problem. If they are on the network it may be easier to run the myTVservice as a user that already have read/browse permission - you can change this in Computer Management/Services.

When you are sure read permissions are in order, it's time to start the service. You do this either from a Command Prompt (elevated user) by typing net start myTVservice [enter], or from Computer Management/Services.

At this time, check the myTV eventlog to make sure the service started properly and is watching your FS. This is available in Computer Management/System Tools/Event Viewer/Application and Services Logs/myTV.

If everything looks ok, it's time to start adding your shows. So start VMC, choose Main Menu from the myTV strip. It should tell you Found New Show in [folder]. Select yes and it'll take you to the Add Shows screen (also work in progress). Once there the list on the left are your local folders - clicking one of these will try to match the foldername to the online database over at thetvdb.com. If it finds a match this will show up on the right hand side of the screen - clicking the correct entry will add it to the database.

At this point the service will (should) receive notification that a new show has been added and start iterating through your files downloading the correct metadata/images.

Repeat this process for all your shows.

When you are done, go back into the myTV Main Menu - you should be presented with the bannerview of your shows. Clicking on any of them should take you to the season/episode screen.

You'll probably notice Season Images are missing for most if not all your shows - no worries, these will be downloaded either within an hour, or the next time you reboot (whichever is first).

That's about it. Hopefully it will work out the box for you. If it does not, please have a look in the forums to see if what you've experienced is a known issue (and if so, what the solution is) or post a new thread asking for help.

myTV Installer - x86

There are a few problems with the installers at the moment, so I'll take you through it.
